Events this Month
Morning Tea
Friday the 8th of July at “Fredericks” which is on the corner of Peel Place and York St.
Winter Show
Just a reminder, our winter show will be held on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd July, so start getting your orchids ready, for our new members, if you wish to enter a plant for benching or in one of the shows, you must have owned the plant for at least 6 months.
Floral Art
The theme for Floral Art entries in the Winter Show this year is “Let’s Twist Again”.
Competition Plants
This month’s Competition Plants that were brought in for assessment. The winner of this month’s incentive award of 3 raffle tickets was Carol White, congratulations Carol.
Easter Raffle
It was decided at the meeting to try holding the Easter raffle at Chesterpass Mall next year.
Orchidup Visit
Our recent visit was last year’s visit which was deferred because the ground was too dangerous due to all the rain we had last winter. The members voted to go to Orchidup again before the end of the year, the date is yet to be confirmed, so start saving your pennies.
New Competition Plants
The time has come to order some new competition plants, what they will be is to be decided at a future General Meeting
Workshop
There will be a shade house visit and workshop on how to prepare an orchid for showing at morning tea time at Julie’s house 23 Marconi Rd on the 1st July, please call Julie on 0498322062 for details.
Nursing Home visits
There are a number of members who are interested in taking part in visiting Nursing homes this year. Details are to be advised.
Inter-Society Challenge
This will be held in Busselton this year, from the 5th to the 7th August, If you would like to attend, please contact Shirley or Julie for all the details.
Committee Meeting
The next committee meeting will be held on the 12th August at 1.30 at Vancouver Café.
Badges
Badges are available from the Trophy Shop, which has moved to37A Albert St( it runs off Minna St), the phone number is 0409111721.
Microphones
A small P.A. system was trialed at this meeting and proved to be a popular addition. Thank you Carol for the use of the machine.
Most Points in the Open Section were earned by Julie Elliott with 18 points
Most points in the Novice Section were earned by Donna Stretton with 8 points
Most Popular Vote by the Members in the Open Sectiion went to Mary for her Oncidium sotoanum
Most popular vote by the Members in the Novice Section was a tie between Jenny for her Phaleanopsis Unknown and Donna for her Cymbidium Unknown.
The Judges Vote went to Julie for her Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann ‘Buckleberry’.
Raffle
This months winners were Donna and Shirley, congratulations.
Door Prize
This month the winner was Terri, congratulations.
Happy Birthday to all those celebrating a “Special Day” this month.
